Pound Drafting vs After-Crush Drafting

Some operators consider the pound draft to be an older design, with after-crush drafting now preferred for certain workflows. In reality, both approaches have their strengths. A pound draft allows quick separation before cattle enter the race, while after-crush drafting provides precision sorting once processing is complete. When designed and used safely, both methods can be highly effective—offering flexibility for different management styles and property needs.
